In other words, cloud application is a piece of software that has benefits of web applications (such as portability, secure, on-demand) and desktop (cross-platform GUI). The main advantage of cloud application can be considered security of data stored, since all information is stored across distributed computer network. Being accessible on-demand from any device, gives user absolutely borderless experience. 

Another significant value of cloud-based application is reduced total cost of ownership. As long as all computing is performed on third-party servers, the end user does not have to pay for overhead costs: rent, electricity, hardware maintenance. 

Cloud makes management of software and its infrastructure much more easy. The reason is that cloud app has centralized database and single user interface. Software changes or code modifications are conducted easily, since everything is centralized.
